How to explore Zante without a vehicle

HOW TO EXPLORE ZANTE WITHOUT RENTING A SCOOTER OR CAR IN 7 DAYS

As already mentioned in the previous page Explore Zante in 7 days, local public transport (called KTEL)

does not cover every spot of the island, therefore moving around without a car or a scooter can present

difficulties and taxis could become an expensive solution

Free Shuttles

Alternatives to public transportation are the free shuttles to San Nicholas beach and

Banana Beach and to Barrage nightclub.

Public Transport:

The connections to the many spots of the island leave from the main station

of Zante town. Here we summarise the routes and advise you to check at bus stops for up to date timetables

You can buy tickets on board which cost 1.80 euros.

Bicycle

It is possible to explore the area from Argasi to Laganas (Argasi, Zante city,

Kalamaki and Laganas) with a bike, as the route is flat and the distance is less than 13Km. Pay attention to

the summer heat however as during midday the temperature can reach up to 35 °. Also, there are no cycle routes, so you always have to pay close attention to cars.

Taxi

Taxi fares are convenient for short distances, but getting to Gerakas, Porto Limnionas and the Port of

San Nikolas can be quite expensive. For Dafni beach, located on the only unpaved road of Zante, taxi might refuse the fare.

IF YOU DON’T HAVE A VEHICLE

If you don’t have a vehicle, you can modify your trip in this way:

Day 1

Arrival in Zakynthos, relax at the nearest beach

Day 2

Visit the Marine Park by excursion or boat rental. On this excursion you can admire the island of

Cameo, Marathonisi island and the caves of Keri. The transfer to the port of embarkation may include an extra person in the fee, dependent on the office.

Day 3

visit the beaches of Vasilikos (Porto Zoro, S. Nikolas, Banana Beach, Gerakas)

Gearakas is part of the marine park and here you will find numerous turtle nests. Banana Beach is the largest and most equipped beach on the island and like San Nikolas, offers the opportunity to have a go at many watersports.

To reach these locations you have 2 possibilities:

1) Take advantage of the FREE shuttle service offered by Banana Beach and S. Nikolas Beach (you can recognise them due to the logos on the side of the vehicle). These shuttles can be taken from Laganas, Kalamaki and Argasi.

2) Use local buses. Stops and buses are recognisable by the word KTEL (Cost 1.80 euros).

Day 4

Visit Shipwreck Beach (do not leave it til the last day, as sometimes due to weather or sea

conditions this spot cannot be reached).

To get to Shipwreck Beach there are 2 options.

1) A fast boat, excursion lasts approximately 4 hours, departing from the main port of Zante.

2) The slow boat, 7 hours, departing from the main port of Zante.

We recommend that you book these a few days in advance.

The transfer price to the port of embarkation sometimes includes an extra person.

Day 5

Visit Keri and Marathia beaches.

These 2 beaches are a few km away from each other and is only a 10 minute drive. Keri can be reached

by public transport, while to reach Marathia you have to take a taxi.

Day 6

Visit to Porto Roxa and Porto Limnionas. These 2 beautiful coves, characterised by rock and

crystalline sea are those that require more time to get to, but it is definitely worth it. The only way to reach

them is by taxi, but this can be quite costly!

Day 7

Visit to Tsilivi and Alykes. The KTEL bus will take you to these two long sandy beaches.

In the evening

Nightlife in recent years has shifted from the chaotic and wild Laganas to Zakynthos town and consequently

to the Barrage. In Zakynthos you can walk along Alexander Roma Street and enjoy a drink or dinner, then you can reach the scenic spot of Bochali or go dancing at Barrage club which is only 2 Km away. They throw famous parties two times a week (the Elegant Party and the White Tuesday). The venue has 2 rooms:

one in the garden for those seeking tranquillity and a drink, and an indoor room for those who want to

dance until sunrise.

Fortunately for those without a vehicle, a shuttle service is provided.
