North Coast Tour or West Coast Tour: which one to choose

escursione Tour Spiaggia del Relitto Zante

Shipwreck Beach excursions remain the most popular Zakynthos tours, despite the landing ban set in place in 2023 following expert assessment of the danger of landslides. Following the ban, the traditional swim stop has been replaced by a photo stop to take scenic pictures of the most famous cove in Zakynthos, now incredibly deserted. Both the North Coast Tour and the West Coast Tour include a photo stop at Shipwreck Beach as well as swim stops in some of the most beautiful Zakynthos locations, which are not reachable by land. Since many of our clients ask which Shipwreck Beach tour is better, we are going to describe the differences between the two, leaving the final decision to you.

Before listing the differences between these tours, we’d like to mention what they have in common. Both excursions stop for photos at Shipwreck Beach, both boats enter inside scenic caves, and finally in both cases, the departure port must be reached independently with your own vehicle.

Shipwreck Beach North Coast Tour and West Coast Tour: the differences.

West Coast Tour

The West Coast Tour to Shipwreck Beach lasts 3 hours and departs from the port on the west coast of the island, about 35 km from Zakynthos Town. To get there, we recommend a vehicle with at least a 125cc engine. This tour will take you to some of the most beautiful locations on the west coast of the island. In addition to the traditional photo stop at Shipwreck Beach, the tour includes 3 swim stops:

1st Swim Stop at White Beach

2nd Swim Stop near the Western Blue Caves

3rd Swim Stop at Porto Stenitis

Sometimes, in case of dirty seawater, jellyfish or overcrowding, the second swim stop could be replaced by a stop in another bay with stunning Caribbean blue waters. Don’t worry, it happens rarely, but should it happen, you will still have the opportunity to visit the inside of many other local caves.

North Coast Tour

The North Coast Tour to Shipwreck Beach lasts about 2 and a half hours, and departs from the port on the northern side of the island, about 30 Km from Zakynthos Town. To reach the port, we recommend a vehicle with at least a 125cc engine, but a 50cc scooter is also doable, since the access road is less steep than the one to other port. This tour will take you to some of the most beautiful bays on the island’s northwestern coast. In addition to the traditional photo stop at Shipwreck Beach, the tour includes 2 swim stops:

1st Swim Stop at Agios Andreas Bay

2nd Swim Stop near the Blue Caves

What does “swim stop near the Blue Caves” mean?

Swimming inside the most famous Blue Caves is not allowed, due to the high number of rental and excursion boats that constantly go in and out. After a tour of the caves, our boat will stop nearby to give you the opportunity to swim inside several smaller blue caves, that the boat cannot access.
