Zante’s 7 Islands: How to reach them

A few miles from the coast of Zante there are 7 beautiful islands, some of these can be reached by excursion, others by swimming and others only with special permits. Let’s see them in detail:

Cameo Island

Among the islands of Zante, Cameo Island is certainly the most easily accessible thanks to a wooden pier that connects it to the mainland. It is located a few kilometers from Laganas and is the second most photographed place in Zakynthos. Marathonisi Island

Marathonisi Island is located within the Marine Park and is the first stop on all excursions in the Marine Park. To reach it prices vary from 10 euros for a taxi boat to 20 euros for an excursion.

Mizithres Islands

The Mizithres Islands were initially 2 islets separated from the mainland, following the 2017 earthquake a huge landslide connected one of these islands to the rocky wall, creating an electric blue effect of the sea. Renting a boat with a skipper is the only way to reach them and take a bath.

Micro Nisi Island

Located near Volimes, the islet of Micro Nisi takes its name from the Greek words Micro = small Nisi = island. It can be reached by swimming starting from the homonymous village of Micro Nisi. Being a rocky island it is not possible to climb it, but its backdrops at sunset are rich in fish and starfish.

Megalo Nisi Island

Megalo Nisi takes its name from the Greek words Megalo = large Nisi = island. It is slightly larger than Micro Nisi and can be reached by swimming from the port of Agios Nikolaos, after sunset its depths are rich in fish and starfish.

Pelouzo Island

Located in the protected area of ​​the Marine Park, Pelouzo Island can only be reached by swimming or by a rental boat. The shortest distance is covered by swimming from Dafni beach for about 2 miles. The estimated time to reach it for those who are trained is less than an hour, it is recommended to bring snacks and a floating aid to rest on. The effort to reach it will be rewarded by the uncontamination of the beach and the seabed.

Strophades Islands

The Strophades Islands are a complex of islands, they are located about 60 nautical miles south of Zakynthos. They are an unspoiled paradise and refuge for many migratory species in winter. To access it you need a documentation issued by the port authority of Zakynthos and can only be reached by private boat.
