HOW TO GET TO ZAKYNTHOS IN HIGH SEASON.

Flying to Zakynthos is undoubtedly the quickest and most popular way for many visitors to get to the island. From May to October there are several flights from most of the European cities direct to Zakynthos, or stopping in Athens, where there is a direct bus or flight to the island every day. The ferry is still a valid solution for those travelling in Cefalonia island, the Greek mainland or in Italy.

HOW TO GET TO ZAKYNTHOS IN LOW SEASON.

During low season the only way to get to Zakynthos is by plane from Athens, which takes about 50 minutes, or by bus, which take 6 hours including ferry from Killini. The ferry is a valid option for those travelling in Cefalonia island, the Greek mainland or in Italy.

GETTING TO ZAKYNTHOS BY PLANE

All year there are daily flights from Athens International (ATH) connecting to the newlybuilt Zakynthos International Airport (ZTH). The flight takes 50 minutes. The three main companies are SkyExpress, Olympic and Aegean.

However, from May to October charter flights, scheduled flights and low cost carriers such as Ryanair, Volotea, Wizzair and EasyJet have direct flights connecting most of the European cities with the island. For more info consult Skyscanner.

GETTING TO ZAKYNTHOS BY FERRY

Apart from flying into Zakynthos, another option available would be to travel by ferry to Zakynthos from mainland Greece, Cephalonia island and Italy.

From mainland Greece there is a daily ferry service from Killini port to Zakynthos main port with Levante Ferries. The journey time lasts 1 hour and the service is currently only operated by Levante Ferries.

From Cephalonia island twice a day there is a ferry service from Pessada to Agios Nikolaos port in the north of Zakynthos. The journey time lasts 1 hour and the service is currently only operated by Ionion Pelagos.

Finally, from Italy in July and August there are direct boats from Bari and Brindisi to Zakynthos port. The journey time lasts 17 hours and the service is currently operated by Red Star Ferries and European Ferries. This being said, it can be a long and tiring trip and we would recommend the ferry from Killini.
