Porto Vromi: guide to the two ports on the west coast of Zakynthos
The name Porto Vromi often causes confusion among tourists visiting Zakynthos, since many believe it to be a single port. Porto Vromi actually refers to two different areas sharing the same name:
- Porto Vromi Maries
- Porto Vromi Anafonitria
Both overlook the same stretch of sea but are not directly connected by a road. Porto Vromi Maries can be reached from the village of Maries, while Porto Vromi Anafonitria is accessible from Anafonitria, a village located further north. If you take the wrong road, the distance between the two ports is about 16 km, a drive that, due to the winding mountain roads, takes almost 30 minutes!
Porto Vromi Beaches: A Paradise for Relaxation and Snorkelling
Both Porto Vromi Maries and Porto Vromi Anafonitria have small white pebble beaches and crystal-clear waters. Here you can relax and swim before engaging in other activities, such as excursions to Shipwreck Beach or renting a private boat.
The jagged rocky coastline makes Porto Vromi an excellent spot for snorkelling, as the coast’s numerous crevices and submerged rocks offer shelter to a variety of fish species. Those who love pristine waters and close contact with nature will enjoy a magical and unique experience.
Excursions from Porto Vromi: Differences between Agencies
Boat trips from Porto Vromi Maries and Porto Vromi Anafonitria to Shipwreck Beach vary based on what agency you choose. The main differences are:
- Itinerary: Some tours include extra stops at caves and less touristy beaches.
- Number of swim stops: Some tours include 2 stops, others 3 stops.
