The route of flavors is a route inaugurated in 2020 by Welcometozante to introduce the flavors and traditions of the island of Zakynthos. The route is about 27 km, starts from the Aristeon oil mill and ends at the Goumas winery, crossing some of the most important attractions located in the hinterland of the island.
The route is divided into three stages:
1. ARISTEON OIL MILL
Free Oil Tasting
The Aristeon oil mill is one of the most famous and oldest oil mills in Zakynthos. Located among the olive groves of Lithakia, in addition to offering the tasting of its oil, it offers a visit to the museum for free. Outside there are various tools used from 1850 to today for the grinding of olives. Here, in addition to the classic extra virgin olive oil, it is possible to taste organic extra virgin olive oil, extra virgin olive oil with lemon, extra virgin olive oil with orange and extra virgin olive oil with garlic.
Kiliomeno is a rural mountain village. Some houses in the village date back to the 16th century after managing to survive the strong earthquake of 1953. The church of Agios Nikolaos has a separate bell tower dating from 1893 with beautiful detailed stone carvings. Kiliomeno is renowned on the island for its stone architecture and many of the houses here have been built in the traditional way of Zakynthos, using local stone from nearby quarries.
2. TYROKOMEIO BASTAS
Free Cheese Tasting
A few km outside the village of Agios Leon, there is the Bastas dairy. This family-run dairy has been producing cheeses for over… years using only milk from local producers. Here the owner…. will guide you in the tasting of various cheeses such as: Pretza, Feta, Ladotyri, Graviera, etc
This small town is famous for its centuries-old olive tree in the center of the town which is estimated to be about 2000 years old. The plant has a very hollow trunk and the main branches are supported by reinforcements to prevent the plant from collapsing under its own weight
3. GOUMAS CELLAR
Wine Tasting € 5 (Reservation recommended)
A few km from the village of Maries, the Giatras family will guide you inside their property showing you their vineyards and ending the tour in their cellar for a tasting of their wines produced only with the local Vostilidis and Avgoustiatis grapes.
